Philodendron Verrucosum Mini Red is a striking plant known for its deep green leaves with vibrant red undersides. We’re not sure on the origins of this oddball but it appears to have circulated for some time in the US terrarium hobby. This compact variety is ideal for indoor displays and terrariums, offering a pop of color and lush foliage.
Native to: Philodendron Verrucosum is native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, particularly in Ecuador and Peru, where it thrives under the canopy in humid, shaded conditions.
Water: Water this plant when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Keep the soil slightly moist but avoid waterlogging, which can cause root rot.
Light: This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves. It can tolerate lower light conditions but grows best in bright, filtered light.
Humidity: High humidity levels between 70% and 90% are ideal for this plant. Increase humidity by using a humidifier, placing the plant on a pebble tray with water, or grouping it with other plants. This plant is also well-suited for terrariums, which naturally provide a humid environment.
Temperature: Maintain a temperature range of 18°C to 26°C. The plant is sensitive to cold and should not be exposed to temperatures below 15°C. A warm, stable environment is crucial for its health and growth.
